If you really want to stand out and write an essay for your admission that will catch the right kind of attention to get you accepted, keep reading.

Tips for a Great Admissions Essay

First of all, for any essay you need to keep your information organized. When you start working on your admissions essay, you should make sure everything you need is in one place. You’ll save a lot of time because you won’t have to look for something you lost; it’ll all be there from the start. Also, another way you should start off this project is to make an outline for yourself. Briefly write about what you want your essay to look like and what needs to go where.

Once you’ve done that, it’s a lot easier to get into the actual writing. Start by filling in the gaps in your outline. I find it easier to write the body first, then the conclusion, and the introduction last. That’s because the first paragraph or first few sentences are the most important. If you can’t convince your dream school’s staff to keep reading, then they won’t get to the good parts. You need to put those good parts at the very beginning.

As for the rest of your essay, don’t worry about getting it right the first time. When you’re writing the first draft just let your imagination and creativity show through. After you’re finished, that’s the time for editing and perfecting your masterpiece. Even a really rough first draft is better than agonizing over every word and never finishing it. Let yourself go a little and don’t be critical until after you’ve gotten the first version down on paper or on your computer. Then you can edit and show it to a trusted friend for a second opinion.
